Shortcuts: The Fast Track to Greater Productivity

The Fast Track to Greater Productivity

All our lives we’ve heard, “It never pays to take a shortcut”. That is wise advice for most worthwhile endeavors in life, but not for most software applications.

Utilizing keyboard shortcuts is one of the easiest and quickest ways to multiply your time and maximize your productivity because they simplify and expedite common and repetitive tasks.

Suggestions to incorporate shortcuts into your work flow:

  • Develop a value for shortcuts. Move past any resistance you may have and commit to learning new, simple skills that will save you beaucoup time (that’s a French technical term meaning ginormous amounts of time).
  • Prioritize shortcuts. Beginners can easily be overwhelmed with shortcuts. If that’s you, concentrate on the most commonly-used shortcuts. Not all shortcuts are created equal. Use only those that are most relevant to you.
  • Find new shortcuts. If you have a project with a repetitive task (using multiple clicks to accomplish it), do a Google search for a shortcut. This is one of the best ways to add new, helpful shortcuts to your skill-set.
  • Use it or lose it! The only way to retain shortcuts, or any skill for that matter, is to use it. Research shows that retrieving information stored in memory is absolutely critical to retaining it. So use it or lose it!
